Roda is a quiet, picture-postcard village surrounded by lush fields and fragrant olive groves on Corfu’s northern coast. For centuries, fishing and farming have been the major breadwinners here, but in recent years it’s opened its arms to holidaymakers from near and far. And with one of the warmest receptions anywhere on the island, it’s no surprise that people keep coming back year after year.

Running parallel to the beach is the long coast road, home to some of Roda’s most authentic tavernas. The village also has a charming pedestrianised strip connecting the beach to the village. It’s lined with shops, bars and a more international roster of restaurants. Come evening, it can get quite lively with everything from plate-smashing Greek nights to karaoke, and there’s even snail racing once a week.

Just outside Roda are miles and miles of unspoilt countryside – perfect terrain for hikes and horse treks. The seafront route to Acharavi is around 25 minutes’ walk and will lead you past some tucked-away restaurants. For a more demanding trail, you can go up to Episkepi, in the foothills of Mount Pantokrator, where you’ll get immense views and a glass of wine when you arrive.

What are the beaches like in Roda?

A big part of Roda’s appeal is the 7-kilometre stretch of golden sand and pebble, which it shares with Acharavi, the resort next door. It’s a Blue Flag-winning beach, so it’s spotlessly clean. And its shallow Mediterranean water makes it a really safe stretch for paddling and swimming for people of all ages. For those who want to up the ante, the beach lines up parasailing, jet-skiing and beach volleyball, too.

What is there to do in Roda?

Roda is set in the countryside and therefore is perfect for walkers who wish to explore the coast. The coastal walk to Acharavi takes about 25 minutes and hikers will pass some tavernas along the way. For those seeking thrills, Acharavi has a water park with waterslides and various sports activities.
